HOODIES
A sweatshirt with a hood is known as a hoodie. In contrast to “pullover” hoodies, which frequently have a single large muff or pocket in the same position, hoodies with zippers typically have two pockets on the lower front, one on each side of the zipper. The hood opening can be adjusted with a drawstring on both designs.

Like jeans, hoodies have transcended their basic practical function to become a staple of American culture. This article of clothing has been incorporated into many different fashions, even going so far as to be worn underneath a suit jacket. Zip-up hoodies are the common name for hoodies with zippers, while pullover hoodies are the term for hoodies without a zipper. Teenagers and young adults frequently wear sweatshirts with or without hoods that feature the names or mascots of their various schools across the chest, either as part of a uniform or out of personal preference, throughout the United States.
Hoodies were worn during protests following Trayvon Martin’s shooting by George Zimmerman in 2012 while he was donning a hoodie. Geraldo Rivera, a host on Fox News, urged young black people to quit wearing hoodies, albeit he later offered an apology. “The hoodie defense” was used by Zimmerman’s defense squad. They claimed that Zimmerman had a legitimate basis to perceive Martin’s hoodie as a danger. After Zimmerman’s trial, the clothing, according to Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban, author of Race and Racism, became symbolic of the Black Lives Matter movement. Law Professor Richard Thompson Ford, the author of Dress Codes, stated that “As the hoodie became associated with ‘Black hoodlums’ in the media, some Black people avoided them and others embraced them: the public image of the hoodie made it into a statement of racial pride and defiance, solidarity with a community, an emblem of belonging, and all of that reinforced the negative associations for those who were inclined to be afraid of assertive Black people.
